BitTorrent Testing Peer-To-Peer Video Streaming

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for distributing large amounts of data over the Internet. BitTorrent is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files, and it has been estimated that it accounted for roughly 43% to 70% of all Internet traffic

As of January 2012 BitTorrent has 150 million active users according to BitTorrent Inc.. Based on this the total number of monthly BitTorrent users can be estimated at more than a quarter billion. At any given instant of time BitTorrent has more active users then facebook and youtube combined, Which is most of the time running in background for downloading files and while doing something else or not!

We have already seen using BitTorrent application supporting playing the content (simulating some aspects of the commercial streaming services) as it is downloaded and prioritize the download accordingly. Which I found very interesting in terms  of possibilities it can have. Now this is going to change the way we stream information.

BitTorrent has introduced and testing this new live peer-to-peer streaming protocol. The protocol has so far proven very stable. While more people shares it, less it lags. Cant wait to try it out.
